Pre Season Friendly v Rapid Bucharest

RAPID BUCHAREST 4 DUNFERMLINE 1 14/07/11

Bischofshofen, Austria

Jim McIntyre and his team returned to Bischofshofen for their second and final match of their pre season tour to Austria. Opponents were Rapid Bucharest who finished fourth in their domestic league, ahead of local rivals  Steaua and Dinamo, and the starting line up gave an opportunity for those who had not started in Tuesday afternoon`s match against Mlada Boleslav. Nick Phinn was left out after feeling his hamstring in training which left three of the same starters - Jason Thomson, Gary Mason and Andy Dowie..

A Liam Buchanan header on a Paddy Boyle cross after ten minutes sent an early chances into the hands of the Romanian team`s keeper. Andy Barrowman ran on to a Buchanan through ball ten minutes later but the keeper won the race to the ball beating the ball away off his legs.

Play was generally concentrated in the middle of the park and Rapid`s first test for Chris Smith, in 29 minutes, was at an angle from 25 yards out. The Pars stopper turned the well struck effort around his left hand post for a corner. Five minutes later a cross from the left hit off Mason and the referee gave a penalty. Ovidiu HEREA stepped up, sent Smith the wrong way and deposited the ball in the bottom left of the Pars net.

Three minutes later in 37th minute the Pars went further behind when a diagonal ball into the box from no.7 on the left was left by Dowie and Stefan GRIGORIE had a simple task to stick the ball past Smith from eight yards.

Ryan Thomson broke things up when things got a little heated two minutes from the interval. David Graham was bundled off the ball and he and the Rapid no.77 had an exchange.

Half Time: Rapid Bucharest 2 Dunfermline 0

The Eastern Europeans committed two subs in 55 minutes and four minutes later they extended the lead to 3-0. A free kick on the right was pumped across the Pars box and after no one cut out defender Ovidiu BURCA met the ball at the far post to convert. Almost immediately after that Smith pulled off a fine save to deny Rapid another.

In 79 minutes Graham produced a great shot from outside the box on the left omly to see the ball rebound off the crossbar but Paul WILLIS was perfectly placed to net on the rebound.

Rapid notched another goal two minutes from time when Smith was drawn out of his box on the right and the cleared ball dropped to Iulian APOSTOLÂ to be lobbed in over the keeper as he tried to scamper back into position.
